If you are new to cloth nappies the vast choice out there can be off putting. It is a good idea to try out a few different brands and styles to see what works and what you like,  but where to start ?  I have put together a number of kits to cover all requirements and make the choice easier.   Each kit contains everything required, all you have to do is decide which one to buy!  Then spend a week or so using the nappies in your pack before purchasing more of what works best for you.

I am often asked which is the ‘best cloth nappy’ but this is impossible to answer. First of all because a good day time nappy is often different from a good night time nappy (the best night time nappies are two part shaped nappies and made from bamboo, cotton or hemp with a separate outer PUL wrap).  Also a lot depends on an individual’s situation, drying space, size of  baby, financial and lastly but no less importantly what patterns you like !  But rest assured every nappy I sell on this site is made to a high standard by a company specialising in cloth nappies. What you love may be very different from what you friend loves so my advice is to try a few brands and styles first and make up your own mind.   It may help to watch my ‘mini demo’ on you tube, where I explain the difference between styles of washable nappies

6 nappies will get you through about 15 – 20 hours and 10 nappies will last between 24-36 hours.  You may want to consider purchasing one of our accessory kits.   Please read the washing nappy section as it is very important to wash correctly.   If you have a particular preference for colour/pattern please let me know in the message box at checkout and I will do my best to accommodate.

Try Them All Mixed Sized/Brand Nappy Starter Kit

The kit below is a mix of brands, styles and sizes, the 6 pack contains 3 birth to potty nappies and 3 sized nappies and the 10 pack contains 6 birth to potty nappies and 4 sized nappies.  Most newborn babies are too small for birth to potty nappies and you will get leaks.  ‘Birth to Potty’ fits from around 1-5 weeks after birth (8-10lbs/3.6-4.5kg) depending on the nappy and your baby’s chunky or not so chunky legs.  You will save money with ‘birth to potty’ nappies and babies grow quickly but if you want to guarantee less leaks on your newborn then the newborn nappies will better.   The Little Lamb bamboo and micro fibre nappies need to be used with the Little Lamb wrap or the Thirsties Duo wrap, and the Duo insert can also be used in either wrap.  I will send youtube videos via email when I post the nappies.   Regarding size, please do choose the correct size kit for your baby as choosing the bigger size hoping for cost effectiveness will just give you leaky nappies.  If your concern is buying nappies that will last please choose the birth 2 potty starter kits instead.

The Washable Nappy Company Trial Kits explained.

All the kits are mixed brand, ie they come with a mix of nappies from different manufacturers.

Try All Styles Starter Kit – this kits gives you a mix of ‘all in one’, ‘two part shaped‘ (ideal for night) and ‘all in two’ nappies giving you the chance to try all available types of modern cloth nappes and will cover every eventuality, from out and about in the day, to over night 2 part nappies that should be super absorbent.  This kit is a mix of sized and birth to potty/onesize nappies so some nappies will work from birth even if you have a small baby.

EasyPEEsy Starter Kit –  this kit gives you a selection of easy to use all in one and pocket nappies.   These nappies go on in one piece and are best for day time use or for babies who are not sleeping through the night. They are all birth to potty/onesize nappies so grow with your baby.

Both kits come in an Organic option too.  All inner parts of the nappy are therefore made from either bamboo or organic cotton or a mix of the two.   Nappies made from organic material are more absorbent than nappies made from man made fibres but they do take twice as long to dry !

We also have some Newborn starter kits – here the nappies are either xsmall or small in size and will fit from 6lbs/2.7kg upwards, some will fit until 12lbs/5.4kg  and some until 18lbs/8.1kg depending on the individual nappies and wraps.  These kits are ideal if you want to start using cloth nappies from birth, are expecting twins or a particularly small baby.   They will give you an excellent insight into the different brands and styles and will not be too bulky
